War in Russia: Matrix Edition

On June 22, 1941, Germany launched its blitzkrieg warfare against the Soviet Union. Armored and motorized forces quickly punched through the Soviet front line and countless divisions were cut off and surrounded. Fighting a withdrawal action, the Soviet army retreated eastward and finally made a stand at the gates of Moscow. In December 1941 the Soviets launched their counteroffensive. This was merely the first year of strategic warfare waged on the eastern front. You can play War In Russia - Matrix Edition up until July 1945, fighting for four years over the new improved map. Numerous campaign games and scenarios are included to allow players many different starting points and game lengths. Each hex is 20 miles across with each turn representing 1 week. Land units are at the Corps level, composed of up to 8 divisions.

War in the Pacific

The War At Sea - Besides critical hit locations for all weapons platforms and any radar installations, individual armor locations and a wealth of performance and characteristics data, each ship’s crew has an experience rating for day and night combat. Every ship from mighty carriers and battleships down to gun boats has a commander with his own strengths and weaknesses. The game includes thousands of ships chosen from over 300 ship classes.

The War in the Air - A wide variety of aircraft are included in the game, ranging from the awkward P-39 and the nimble Zero, to the heavy hitting B-29 and the extremely fast and powerful Corsair. Pilots and crews are tracked separately from aircraft and have individual skill and fatigue ratings. When pilots are in short supply, they can be placed into the pilot pool and reassigned to other groups

The War on the Ground - Troops are needed to maintain and garrison bases and to deprive the enemy of his bases. So, troops are handled with care. There are a goodly number of different types of land-based units. The unit counters are mostly on division and brigade level, but there are many independent regiments and battalions. These are all represented by different unit counters and have different capabilities and include engineers, combat squads, Marine squads, support squads, air support sections, Sherman tanks, Stuart tanks, motorized forces, a number of mortars and field artillery and many others. There are 15 campaigns included with the game, which can be played against the computer opponent, hot seat, by secure email. War in the Pacific now gives you the chance to fight the entire war your way on every level.

Political Points – Some troops are restricted in deployment. Australian troops must be release from home defense, for instance, before they can be shipped off to fight in New Guinea. And, Admirals can’t be everywhere, at once. Each day, each player accumulates political points which can be used to reassign assets to the various headquarters or to change leaders.

Japanese Production – Groups cannot fly without planes, ships need to be built and tanks have to come from somewhere. The Japanese player will never have enough industry to build all he needs. He can choose to increase the size of factories or change what they are building at the cost of retooling. He can also speed up or retard the building of specific ships to the possible detriment of the shipbuilding schedule. He will need oil and resources to make industry run and will want to capture locations with such materials as quickly as possible. Much of this gathering can be automated, but the player will be able to fine tune the procedure or manually order the loading and destination of his ships.

Battles in Normandy

Final Victory or Defeat Had One Name - D-DAY! Battles in Normandy brings to you the award-winning Decisive Battles of World War II system and some seriously intense gameplay. Choose to take the Allied side and you're faced with the overpowering burden of locking into mortal combat with some of the German Army's most vicious and experienced Eastern Front veterans; victory and liberation for France are by no means a foregone conclusion. Or, select the Germans and face an all-consuming Allied army that has a near-endless pool of reinforcements and supply to draw from, intent on your complete destruction. Either way, two monster campaign scenarios (D-Day to Cobra and Cobra to Failaise) and eight smaller scenarios will cover every important aspect of this campaign, so critical to the redemption of millions under Nazi rule.

The Decisive Battles game engine injects a host of special new rules for amphibious and airborne operations, plus a huge number of other enhancements, to dramatically enhance the gameplay experience. This engine features an integrated move/combat system that exploits the computer's processing and data storage powers to create an opponent that is more fluid and realistic than in traditional computer wargames. Prior combats can influence movement, units have a wide variety of combat and supply abilities, and SSG's legendary AI routines make for truly fearsome opponents. All aspects of a battle are reported to the player, allowing them to make fully informed decisions before a battle, and to determine whether a particular outcome was the result of good/poor generalship or blind luck.

Battle In Italy

Battles in Italy covers three pivotal battles from the Italian Campaign.

The invasion of Sicily, codenamed Operation Husky, the landings at Salerno, codenamed Operation Avalanche and the landings at Anzio, codenamed Operation Shingle. While the invasion of Sicily went more or less to plan, the result in the two subsequent amphibious operations was less certain, with the safety of the beachheads at both Salerno and Anzio in considerable doubt for some time. Neither side has sufficient resources to do the job properly, and improvisation and desperation are the order of the day, and as a result all three battles are tense and exciting affairs.

In Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily, the Axis player must plan carefully in order to extract the best possible performance from some less than committed Italian troops, while the Allied player must somehow find a way around or through the many natural defensive obstacles in their way.

In Operation Avalanche, the invasion of the Italian mainland, the Germans can exert severe pressure on the Salerno beachhead, but must defend against Allied forces coming to the relief of the amphibious forces. The Allies must hold fast to their bridgeheads and their vulnerable supply sources, while speeding other formations to the rescue.

Operation Shingle, the Anzio landing, was a bold Allied move to break the stalemate caused by the strength of German defensive lines. The Germans have a real chance to crush the Anzio bridgehead, especially if they transfer troops from their main defensive line. However, if the Allies can break through the weakened lines while avoiding disaster at Anzio then a truly decisive victory is possible.

Battlefront

Battlefront features the power of battalion-level combat in some of this period's most bloody and intense conflicts: Saipan, Market Garden, Novorossisk, and Gazala. Players will have realistic control over their soldiers, with a tactical scale just large enough to make a telling difference in the strategic picture.

While the Battlefront system shares a design philosophy with SSG's award-winning Decisive Battles series, it is actually an entirely new system specifically designed for battalion-level combat. This level of play gives the player a chance to experience true issues of command, control, sighting, and supply at a level that emphasizes plenty of tough but enjoyable decisions to make. The combat system provides new and varied ways to damage your opponent, with provisions for direct and indirect fire, air strikes, and special, historically-accurate combat modes (such as Japanese Banzai attacks).

Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets

Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets is the latest strategy title from the award-winning team at Strategic Studies Group.  A synthesis of the very best elements of two critically acclaimed and top-rated game systems, Decisive Battles and Battlefront, and a successor to both, the new Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets brings to life a campaign of epic scale and dynamic battles on the Eastern Front of World War II.

Command the Soviet forces, newly confident after stopping and throwing back the Barbarossa offensive, or try the elite and seasoned German army now reconstituted after Winter losses and ready to regain the initiative.  Two separate forces prepared offensives in the same area in the Spring of 1942.  When the dust had cleared the Germans had managed a great victory that opened the doors to the drive on Stalingrad.  But the outcome was far from certain and in Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets, history is yours to rewrite.

This new system allows both regimental and battalion level combat, while incorporating many innovative features such as off-map reinforcement decisions and on-map historical areas of operation with mystery variants to increase replayability and limit the effect of hindsight.  Along with the substantially improved and simplified supply and movement systems, a new bonus and advantage system for headquarters effects, simplified direct fire and better combat tables, an improved strong points system and the ability to create hedgehog defenses make this the most advanced and realistic SSG design to date.

Perhaps the most innovative new feature of Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets is the on-map area of operation and mystery variant system. This new system takes away the advantage of hindsight by restricting mass unit relocation while allowing the areas to change as you achieve your objectives, with mystery variants keeping the opponent from predicting your limits.  These new rules represent a realistic modeling of historical command restrictions and add a new and fascinating layer to each side’s decision-making.

Unity of Command

In 1942, a titanic struggle is reaching its climax in the boundless, trackless expanses of southern Russia. The stakes cannot be higher as you take command of battle-hardened Wehrmacht or massive Red Army forces to decide the fate of an entire continent.

Unity of Command lets you replay the epic conflict that was the Stalingrad Campaign of World War II. And as the story unfolds, join the Soviet campaign to repel the invaders... As these legendary battles play out on the hex board, the tension of decision making and difficulties of conducting operations on a massive scale emerge. Command armies and fronts in maneuver warfare, thrust and encircle, capture cities and cross continents; but never, ever forget to watch your supply lines.

Experience the highly fluid, enormously large battles of maneuver in a turn-based strategy setting. Take command in this mobile, back-and-forth sort of war where logistics and poor weather are often the decider, and defeat and victory are sometimes just a mile, or a day, apart.
